Celebrating 10 years in Aotearoa / New Zealand
This work is a celebration of a personal and creative journey that began ten years ago when I arrived in New Zealand, and that continues to evolve with every step.
Journey was born from a deep reflection on the path we all walk. Not just physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and artistically.
For many years, I identified with the image of the lighthouse, something that shines from the shore and guides others. Together with my family, we have visited nearly one hundred lighthouses around the world. But now, with honesty, I recognize myself more like the boat: the one that seeks the light, navigating with more questions than answers, facing vast and uncertain seas with humility and courage.
This piece reflects that internal shift. During Welcome Day at Botany Library, visitors were invited to share their vision of the journey by drawing and writing on a community mural that transformed the library windows.
A young girl drew many rain clouds. At first, I saw them as adding drama to the image of the boat—until I noticed that inside one of the clouds, she had written the word “LOVE.” In that moment, I understood darkness is part of the light. Rain brings growth. Everything is necessary on this journey.
